The Post of Destiny

So, I finished reading The Book of Destiny, Unlocking the Secrets of the Ancient Maya and the Prophesy of 2012 (long title, whew!) by Don Carlos Barrios.

The White Road

At the end of the book, he gives you a chart by which you can look up your Mayan symbol by your birth date. (If you want me to look yours up just shoot me an email, first 5 are free.)  Well mine turned out to be 1 E. As I am a male with a female’s name, Brooke, my life has been defined by my E. When I spell it for someone I emphasize the E at the end as if it matters for my dinner reservation or pizza delivery – but it does! Honestly, I could never be a “Brook” or a “Brooks,” I just wouldn’t be the same guy at all.

Anyway, there are 20* astrologically determined symbols which represent the ‘energy’ in the Cholq’ij calendar that dominates any particular day, then those ‘energies’ cycle and repeat, over and over again. Creates a spiral through time, like the base of a tornado it whips up larger cycles throughout history. That smaller daily churning energy cycle churning the cake batter of human emotional states in concentric rings of change. I might create a calendar based on the symbols and post it on the blog as Don Carlos suggests that using them as a guide is a key to becoming fully realized in our purpose.

p. 69

* Mayan mathematicians gave us the vegesimal, or base-twenty, positional system. Only three symbols are needed – a dot (equal to 1), a line (equal to 5), and an eye or shell (equal to 0 or 20) – to represent any number.

So here’s Mia’s and Mine:

Mia's Symbol

I’x 1 2 3 4

South, Water, Magic, Patience, Astuteness, high magic.

p. 194

“The power of this sign mediates between the real and the unreal, the possible and the impossible. It is therefore referred to as the Day of Magicians. Psychic powers and abilities are favored on this day.

Of all the signs, I’x expands the mind the most, providing the strength to reach the highest level of consciousness. This strength, combined with mental acuity, benefits the highest level of mysticism. I’x is represented by the jaguar, an Ajpop (higher deity) of the American jungle. It is related to strength, power, astuteness, and firmness. The mythical Men-Gods who led this humanity (aliens? -KG) were the four B’alameb’, or jaguars, regents of this sign, who saved and guided the Mayan world twelve thousand years ago.”

(Ix was the Technology Planet in Dune. “Many Machines on IX” – Guild Navigator – KG)

E 1 2 3 4

West, Earth, the sacred path of destiny, experience acquired through travel and from wise elders (1 2), the stairs between the world, the overworld, and the underworld.

p. 182

“E is the strength, power, and energy a person possess for undertaking journeys, jobs, commissions – anything having to do with human realization. It is the sacred way, Saq B’e (the White Road), purity, and the second level. The White Road leads from one temple to another, from one city or ceremonial center to another.

p. 67

“Not only did they manage their agriculture and measure the cycles of time by coordinating their pyramids with celestial events, but the pyramids also took advantage of the convergence of cosmic and terrestrial energy. The Maya used the knowledge gained from placing their pyramids as energy receptors and catalysts as a guide for laying out their ceremonial cities to form energy belts. Thus, the sphere of influence of each form of energy was designated in the perception of both the subtlest and most concrete levels that make up reality. These energy belts were outlined by roads that ran from East to West called Saq B’e, or the White Road, a name also used to refer to the Milky Way.

p. 349 – GLOSSARY

Saq B’e – Literally, the White Road. This is the sacred road that runs between one ceremonial center and another; the road used by Chi-Mam (regional specific Mayan priests. Ajq’ij.) to take their knowledge elsewhere; and the road followers must take with their guides. It is also the name used to refer to the Milky Way.

(Sounds like Ley lines. See Stonehenge. See dowsing. I was just watching these videos about Untold Egyptian History and one actually mentions a Mayan-inscribed stone that was found in Egypt! Also, that Maya meant water in Egypt. – KG.   Specifically: 1 2)

It also said both Mia and I could be Ajq’ij (Mayan Priests). I think it says that for a lot of people though.

p. 182

“E provides action. It is intermediation, it is the search for what is new and yet similar between different visions, and it brings an innate, innovative strength.”

“E are Ajq’ijab’ (Mayan Priests), leaders, diplomats, and political experts.”

p. 183

POSITIVE ASPECTS

“E are generous, kindhearted, resolute, understanding, cheerful, and affectionate. They readily and immediately help others and are happy to show them the proper path.”

So all that resonated pretty highly with me.

The second intrigue for me was the Origin Story of the Maya as I believe it to be an allegorical story of cosmological significance. And on top of that, the first city built by the Maya is TULUM and it is the only one of their cities built by water. I remembered as I was reading that one of our odder family vacations was to Mexico where, after surviving a hellish long drive down a single long road with all of our luggage strapped precariously to two beat-up VW Bugs instead of the van we had requested and passing by a truck loaded with chickens that had crashed on the side of the road and left the feathered and carcassed remnants as a Pirates-of-the-Caribbean-Ride-styled horrific display for us to leer at as we passed, we did eventually go to a bar and braved drinking the water, saw a filthy “crystal” cenote, and saw Tulum. We also inner tubed through underground rivers with shafts of light beaming through the ceiling/holes in the jungle floor. My brother, little at the time, stood in a beam of light from the surface and shouted, “Beam me up, Spocky!” which we found hysterically cute. We were shown the supposed mythical Mayan entrance to the Underworld and I wondered if they really thought it was or if that was just their name for it. We also watched real Mayans do the unwind-down-the-pole-trick, but then they wanted tip money and tried to steal the video camera. I hope I can find that tape. The stones of Tulum were absolutely enormous and placed together with absolute precision. We saw a temple where it was built to the specifications that, during the summer and winter solstice, a supposed shadow of a snake climbs or descends the steps. Incredible.

MAYA ORIGINS

moving this to a separate post as this one would get far too long…

NASA
The Maya: “They Did it To Themselves”

So how odd is it that with all the 2012 hooplah coming NASA is trying to bitch slap the Maya lately with this crazy study? They say that the Maya deforested themselves and the drought then killed them off. The deforestation comes from their calculation of how many trees it would take to move and fire the stones used in the megalithic temples. I think this presupposes a bit much about their methods of construction that we can’t even seem to replicate theoretically? Uhh… don’t you guys have some space science to do?

Then there’s Hollywood’s version of 2012, which must be wrong because Hollywood is stupid and fear-based. Then there’s these Mayan apology pieces, “Hey, sorry. 2012 ain’t a big deal after all!”

Me, I still don’t know what to think.
I do know that thinking is the first step to changing,
so I try to think HOPE as much as possible.

p. 2

“For the Maya, the famous date of December 21, 2012, marks the beginning of the fifth cycle of 5200 years called Job Ajaw, or the Fifth Sun. This potentially apocalyptic date is the beginning of a change in consciousness, a time when a new socioeconomic order will arise in harmony with Mother Earth.

Just as the world did not end in the year 200 at the start of the new millennium, it won’t end with the advent of Job Ajaw in 2012. An unfounded fear was created before the new millennium by religious leaders who based their theories on misguided interpretations of ancient religious texts and predictions made by famous prophets. The same fear is rising again. The true guardians of our tradition have never been consulted about this date, but we are here to say: December 21, 2012 will not be the end of the world or the end of humanity. In fact, it will be the start of a period in which harmony, understanding, peace, and wisdom can reign. The prophets say that during Job Ajaw we will move towards a harmonious Natural Order so that both the Earth and humanity can attain the next stage of evolution.”

p. 4-5

“Somewhere along the way, Western society began to assume that human beings have the right to dominate plants, animals, even each other. The result of this materialist outlook is an economical, ecological, social, and moral crisis that has caused the downfall of other cultures.

Humankind has achieved a level of technological developments that has enslaved us instead of helping us. This had led to our lack of awareness and tendency to value a person for his or her material possessions. We have forgotten what is most important – our life purpose. We have distanced ourselves from nature. We no longer make time for ourselves but seek distractions, in an effort to avoid looking inward, preventing us from evolving as human beings. Alienation has taken hold, and our actions are based on illusions.

Wars are breaking out as a result of intolerance and religious fundamentalism. We continue to exploit countries and natural resources  for financial and political gains, blaming our aggressiveness on potential nuclear conflict. Even more alarming, thousands of people still die every day as a result of war, hunger, and disease while governments and we as individuals simply look the other way. How can there be so many murders and rapes and so much gang violence? How can we as humans exploit one another to such an extent? How do entire countries spin into chaos? How can we enlist children to be soldiers in wars they do not understand, to fight battles that are not theirs to fight? Why are so many of our seniors and mentally ill homeless? Why do we need to take prescription or illegal drugs just to get through the day? We are confused and directionless, and our political and religious leaders have no answers because they are lost as well.

It is no wonder that a drugged and alienated existence has become the norm. Unless we can find a balance between materialism and spirituality, we are doomed to be the victims of our own destiny! Could the reason for our fatalistic lifestyle, the reason why we wait impassively for humanity’s disastrous end? Is this why we would rather envision the end of the world than take responsibility for our future?”

Chapter 1, p. 7
Mayan Truths

The greatest truths, the simplest and loveliest things, are free. All the money in the world cannot buy the enchantment of mist-shrouded trees, the sun setting in the distance, and the varied hues reflecting on the soft, rippling waters of a magical lake. We see the world through a magnificence of creation, and thousands of such majestic realities exist, from the smile on a child’s face to a butterfly on a stalk of grass. This is the way to experience life! When we take the time to feel, to absorb, this is when we start down the path of self-discovery, exploring our inner space in harmony with all existence. This is where we embark on the journey to become one with the immensity of creation.”

p.128

“With true freedom, we are honestly concerned about ourselves as a real premise of existence, about being healthy because we have no worries, about being wealthy because are most treasured possessions are truth and simplicity. Truth is an awareness of self, of one’s virtues and flaws. We accept ourselves as we are without internal conflict. Some people may be born with abilities we wish we had, but we have abilities that others want. It’s not a competition. The reality is that we need each other. Our differences create balance.”

p. 129

“Being a leader was an honor, not something to brag about or take advantage of. They didn’t believe they were all-powerful. The purpose was to maintain equilibrium and uphold our Grandfather’s vision. Democracy isn’t about choosing the person we think will serve our individual purposes. Wouldn’t it be better to elect someone who will work for the good of all?

“We constantly compete to accumulate material wealth to fill our houses with as many symbols of our riches as we can, but the struggle leaves us empty inside. Alienation takes over, and we remain directionless. We’d rather have the latest gadget than sit and watch the sun set. We’d rather have full pockets and empty hearts.

“Globalization has created little financial cliques that vie for the world’s resources, goods, and services. We have no idea that we’re being manipulated.”

p. 130

“Freedom is peace. It’s being comfortable with our actions. It isn’t comfortism or waiting for a better life in the hereafter. It’s a better life now. This can be achieved by slowing down and playing with our children instead of rushing headlong to nowhere. Isn’t it better to reflect on our lives than to sit in front of a television, numb to the lack of real purpose in our lives?”
