Finally got NextGEN Gallery plug-in installed along with a Flash slideshow.

(Whoa, just found out that JW Player has watermarked the slideshow that works with NextGEN so be prepared to $PAY$ if you go this route. Grr!)

I really wish I had done this at the start. I’m almost obsessive-compulsive enough to go back and re-import every picture on this blog with NextGEN, but luckily I’m lazy.

edit: ugghh… i wrote that when i was happy. now i’m trying different configurations with pictures and slideshows and am really not pleased, but can’t find a better option out there. give it a try, let me know what you think. i may ditch the whole thing and go back to the basics.

for wordpress gallery: 1. i would like it to pop up and show the title as well as the description with an option to direct link to the page. (for now, i think you can ctrl+click or right click + new page.) 2. i wish it would resize it to something reasonable because i have to scroll down for all the portrait photos. i guess i need to have it upload them smaller. 3. OR, if i use the picture viewer, why isn’t there an option to go back to the full gallery? *sigh* i wish i could program better. this is for the birds.

for slideshow: 1. all the slideshows out there obscure part of the photograph with text and buttons. why not have the flash window be bigger and have the caption below? makes sense? 2. it doesn’t show the title. i like my titles. :( 3. i need the font to be smaller. 4. it has a control panel but that obscures even more of the photograph than the text already does. can’t get it to work anyway. 5. i can’t seem to use the built-in vars with the default NextGEN wordpress code.

You have no idea how many times I’ve lost my work using the WordPress Built-in Gallery. If you accidentally click outside the window where you are labeling photos it clears the window and doesn’t save anything you’ve typed; this could mean the destruction of 100 labels and you have to start all over again. Very disheartening.

(Slideshow Tip: If you click on the flash and use your left and right cursor keys you can make it jump to the next or previous picture. It will not work if your last click was on the regular web page, so make sure the slideshow was the last thing you had clicked before trying.)
